In combination with disabling decals, that was the only version that gave the longest spans of crash-free play for me (at the time, it was just one version back to downgrade to), and I've avoided upgrading ever since. Theres fun to be had, for sure, but its couched in a structure thats filled with frustration and, worst of all, boredom. To install, place the files in the dropzone folder inside your Just Cause 2 installation directory (you may have to create this folder). Just Cause 3 feels less than the sum of its parts.

The fix is, unfortunately, to downgrade your video card drivers pretty much at random. In order to buy Just Cause 2, select the offer that suits you from the list.
